Legal Services
I work hard for a living. I work hard for my clients.
When I agree to represent someone, I agree to work hard for them. Generally, no matter what area of the law is involved, my work involves these three categories:
1. Let the law be our guide.
The first and perhaps most important thing I need to do is to make sure that I know the law that applies to each client’s case. I know the law, generally. I research the law to make sure that my knowledge is up to date and I secure the law that applies to a given case.
Areas of the law that frequently come into play are: What was the defendant’s duty of care; What damages is the plaintiff able to recover; Upon a recovery of damages, are there any legitimate liens for medical bills or wage loss that need to be paid back.
Understanding all elements of a claim and defense, as well as the rules of evidence, is essential virtually every aspect of the case.
2. Understanding the Facts
The best source that I have found is my client. I listen to my clients and, when necessary, seek their assistance in getting additional facts.
I also use investigators to secure witness statements when necessary. I obtain and read the medical records, wage records, accident reports and all other documents available pertaining to the case.
I am aggressive in securing documents, information and testimony from my client’s opposing party, and I do not hesitate to go to court to obtain orders compelling the information that ought to be produced.
I hire expert witnesses who can bring to the case knowledge, education and experience to assist the jury in understanding the facts or issues in a case. I spend the time necessary to select the right expert for the job.
3. Applying the Law to the Facts
First and foremost, I honestly assess the case and advise my clients.
I present their cases in the best light possible. Presenting the case in front of a jury may also involve a team effort, including graphic designers, animators, and trial consultants. My clients and I retain them as appropriate to make sure we make the best presentation we can.
